Meet Adora Gutierrez, our Maplean of the Month!

Q: Where are you from?

A: Adora Gutierrez (AG): I was born and raised in the Philippines. I grew up in a Tarlac city where I graduated high school then moved to Manila to study college at the University of Santo Tomas and lived in Manila for 10 years. I lived in San Diego for a year when I first moved to the United States.

Q: What attracted you to work for Marin County?

A: AG – I want a job that is near where I live, and I was always impressed of the architectural design of the Marin County Civic Center. I used to work in Corte Madera and whenever I passed the civic center, I kept on telling myself that I will be working there someday, and that someday started 17 years ago.

Q: What do you like to do for fun outside of work?

A: AG – There are many things I love to do outside of work. I enjoy going to the gym on a regular basis. I enjoy attending classes like Zumba, LeBarre, Pilates and yoga. My husband is a personal trainer, so we make him proud whenever he sees his family go to the gym. Next, I love the outdoors. I enjoy growing flowering plants, vegetables, and fruit trees. I also love hiking around Novato with my family, friends and my dogs. And yes, I love visiting famous places within the US and around the world. In my lifetime, I would like to see famous national parks and national wonders of the world. I am also an active member of FANCO (Filipino – Americans of Northern California Organization). We meet regularly for many events like rosary rally, fund raising, picnic, and other parties – birthday, Christmas, Halloween, despedida, etc. But the most important thing that I love to do outside work is being home with my family including my dogs!

Q: What do you hope to get out of MAPLE?

A: AG – I enjoy being with fellow Asians. I hope to learn something new and meet someone new every time we have MAPLE events. I am so thankful and proud that there is MAPLE. Mabuhay to all of us!
